How to use mounts in Elder Scrolls Online

Mounts play a crucial role in Elder Scrolls Online. Traveling long distances on foot can take a lot of time, and that’s where mounts can be very useful. There are a variety of mounts in the game, with a total of 10 species available for players to buy. These include wolves, bears, Dwarven spiders, guar, horses, kagouti, nix-oxen, elk, camels, senche, and bears.

How to get mounts

In order to use mounts, first, you need to make sure that you have a mount unlocked. You can see the list of mounts you already own by going to the Collections menu. To access the Collections menu, go to the in-game menu by pressing the U key on the keyboard, and select the Collections tab. In the Filter By column, select Mounts and it will show the mounts you own in the game.

If you don’t own a mount, you can easily get one by buying one from the numerous stables available in the game. Stables are denoted by the horse symbol on the map, and you can usually find them outside major cities. Alternatively, certain limited edition mounts are only available in the Crown Store.

How to use mounts

Once you have a mount, you can use it to travel quickly. But before you do that, you need to go to the Menu and make sure you have it selected under the Collections tab. Once you have a mount set as active, simply press the H key on the keyboard, the View button on the Xbox controller, or hold down the touchpad on the PS4 controller to summon it.

How to upgrade mounts

When you get your first mount, it starts off with the base stats. Mounts have a total of three attributes, and they can be upgraded using Septim, ESO’s in-game currency, at any Stable Master.

Upgrades are character-specific, and each character needs to upgrade mounts individually. Mounts can only be upgraded once every 20 hours, and the maximum level of each stat is 60. Each upgrade costs 250 Septim, so you need at least 45,000 Septim and 3,600 hours to be able to upgrade your mounts to the level cap.

The good news is that you don’t have to upgrade mounts separately. All you need to do is head to the Stable Master and upgrade either the Speed, Carry Capacity, or Stamina attribute, and it will reflect across all of your mounts.
