How to use the Haligtree Secret Medallion in Elden Ring

Up to the tree tops down.

The Haligtree Secret Medallion is key to reaching the Haligtree optional area in Elden Ring, where some of the toughest challenges, and greatest rewards, await. With both the right and left halves of the Secret Haligtree Medallion, make your way to the Grand Lift of Rold that normally leads to the Mountaintops of the Giants.

Once you reach the Grand Lift, proceed to the platform that grants the prompt, “Hoist medallion.” Normally, hoisting the medallion will take you to the Mountaintops. This time, instead of simply pressing the button, with the prompt active, press left or right on the D-Pad, or use the left and right arrow keys, to bring up a hidden option: “Hoist secret medallion.” Select this option and a new cutscene will play as the Grand Lift begins to rise to a new location: the Path to the Haligtree.

It’s worth noting there’s no way to directly reach the Haligtree itself and take on the challenges within. Instead, you must make it through a gauntlet of difficult areas and puzzles. You’ll start by breaking free of the dungeon called Path to the Haligtree, then you must cross the blizzarding Consecrated Snowfield, make your way across a frozen river, and solve the mystery of Ordina, Liturgical Town. Only then does the Haligtree reveal itself.

The area itself is by far one of the greatest challenges, as every enemy hits hard and fast, and there are bottomless pits at every turn. At the bottom is one of the best boss fights in the entire game, which is worth at least attempting once you’ve built up your skills.
