When is the release date for Trek to Yomi?

It's not too far off.

Trek to Yomi is a story-driven action-adventure game about a young samurai trying to protect his hometown. The game was initially announced in 2021 with a vague 2022 release window, however, the game’s publisher, Devolver Digital, has announced that the game will launch on May 5 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox consoles, and PC.

Accompanying the announcement was a 15-minute gameplay trailer that showed the game’s protagonist, Hiroki, fighting through waves of enemies in an attempt to stave off an invading force.

Among the game’s most notable features is its monochromatic color scheme, which evokes the grainy, black-and-white visual style present in some of the films by distinguished Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa, such as Seven Samurai and Yojimbo. The game’s director, Leonard Menchiari, has stated that the game was “inspired by old Japanese cinema from the 50s and 60s.”

Another trailer was previously shown at PlayStation’s March State of Play event, which unveiled the game’s voice cast. The cast includes Masayuki Katou, Sarah Emi Bridcutt, Hiroshi Shirokuma, Hiroki Goto, and Akio Otsuka. Otsuka is notable for being the Japanese voice of Solid Snake/Big Boss in the Metal Gear series, Xehanort in the Kingdom Hearts games, as well as Jigen Daisuke in the Lupin III franchise.
