Deus Ex series isn’t dead yet, according to Eidos Montreal studio head David Anfossi. The Canadian software house is working on Shadow of the Tomb Raider in collaboration with Crystal Dynamics now.

Considering that this is going to be the last adventure of the younger Lara Croft, there’s a possibility that the development team could get back to doing the things it’s used to do, like the Deus Ex franchise and grand finale for Adam Jensen’s journey.

Deus Ex Not Deal, says Eidos Montreal

“Deus Ex is here. We did not forget Deus Ex, we built the studio with this franchise. We gave out blood, sweat, everything to reboot this franchise and be true to it, so it’s not dead. It’s not dead,” he claimed in a recent interview.

“We just need to think about the future of it and make it correctly and respectfully.”

It’s likely that the studio accepted to work on Tomb Raider while Crystal Dynamics is busy doing its stuff on Project Avengers in exchange for a chance to build the last Deus Ex title.

Mankind Divided was a bit divisive both in terms of critics and sales, and that was the main reason why publisher, studio and IP owner Square Enix decided to put the franchise on hold for a while.

So, it’s perhaps the time to try and reinvent the intellectual property once the series gets back? We’ll see how things develop in a couple years from Shadow of the Tomb Raider‘s release, which is slated for mid-September.
