During its presentation, Starfield has been revealed as a next-gen RPG, which let many of us wondering which platforms it could be aiming for. In an interview with Eurogamer, Bethesda’s Todd Howard provided a new statement to clarify that.

According to Howard, who is a director at Bethesda Game Studios, the title will “handle next-generation” systems but could also be released on current-gen systems, which is a signal of the fact that the dev team hasn’t really decided yet.

“What systems we put it out on – what’s the hardware requirements – is still to be determined,” he said.

“We’re pushing it; we’re thinking very, very far in the future so we’re building something that will handle next-generation hardware. That’s what we’re building on right now, that’s where our mind is, but that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t exist on the current systems as well.”

Hearing things like these, one would say Starfield is going to be cross-gen, although we understand it’s a bit too early for a publisher like Bethesda to go out and say that they are already building the game for unannounced consoles.

Discussing what the game feels like, Howard added that “it’s different, but if you sit down and play it you would recognize it as something we made if that makes sense? It has our DNA in it. It has things that we like.”

“But it has a lot of new systems we’ve been thinking about for a while that fit that kind of game really well. We’ll talk about it in the future. See, now I wish I hadn’t announced it!”.

Starfield has been revealed at E3 2018 and doesn’t have a launch window yet.
