It’s been a somewhat peaceful two weeks in Destiny 2’s community since the release of the Warmind expansion. Players have been enjoying the new end-game activities like Escalation Protocol and the Spire of Stars Raid Lair, and things have been going kind of smoothly for a change.
But now players are up in arms. With yesterday’s Iron Banner, the monthly PvP event which offers exclusive armor and weapons, there’s another controversy on the horizon. This time, it has to do with the ever-controversial Eververse in-game store.
The anger stems from a new emote which is offered in the store. Normally, this wouldn’t be a problem, as the store offers a ton of different emotes for direct purchase and through loot boxes. But it’s the content of the emote which has caused the uproar.
The emote, which has your Guardian slam down a Light-forged axe before the Sigil of the Iron Lords appears in front of them, is pretty damn cool. Players believe that the emote should be available through Iron Banner rank-up packages and not for real-life money, which is known as Silver in Destiny 2.
In response, Bungie community manager Cozmo had only this to say:
It is a head-scratching decision from Bungie, for sure. While it is nice to have more things available for direct purchase, the developer has made changes in season three to make it so that players must participate in an activity to receive that activity’s rewards. This emote is an Iron Banner emote, but all anyone has to do is purchase the “Iron Emote Bundle” from Eververse to receive the emote.
It’s possible that this deluge of negative feedback could prevent things like this from happening more in the future, but for now, it appears that players who want the emote will have to cough up some money.
