The anime vampire-themed action RPG Code Vein has been delayed from this September to 2019. Developer Bandai Namco has released an official statement regarding the decision, which essentially boils down to the fact that the project just needs more time overall.

“Throughout its pre-release promotion campaign, Code Vein has consistently garnered positive reactions from both media and consumers alike,” Bandai Namco’s official statement reads. “With this knowledge in-hand, Bandai Namco Inc. has made the decision to dedicate additional time to further develop Code Vein; ensuring the final product delivers on the expectations set amongst media and fans.”

Code Vein is a journey through a post-apocalyptic world ridden by vampires, none of whom sparkle. With gameplay heavily inspired by the Dark Souls series, it’s garnered plenty of positive praise from folks who have been able to sink their teeth into it early.

While the first Dark Souls got a remaster for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and eventually the Nintendo Switch, this delay leaves 2018 without any obvious new heir apparent for Souls-likes. The genre has had a pretty steady blood flow in recent years, like Team Ninja’s samurai slasher Nioh and FromSoftware’s very own Bloodbore. But this year that well is dry. Frankly it…. sucks!
