Two new cards from Hearthstone’s upcoming expansion, The Boomsday Project, were revealed earlier today.

Meteorologist is a six-mana Mage minion with three attack and three health. It has a Battlecry ability that allows you to deal one damage to a random enemy for each card in your hand.

The other card is called E.M.P. Operative. It’s a five-mana neutral minion with three attack and three health, and it has a Battlecry effect that lets you destroy a Mech.

Both of these minions have relatively low stats for their somewhat high mana cost. E.M.P. Operative can be compared to some of the crab cards from other sets. Golakka Crawler, for example, has a Battlecry that destroys a Pirate, while Hungry Crab can eliminate a Murloc. Keeping this in mind, it makes sense that Blizzard would introduce a minion like E.M.P. Operative due to all of the Mechs coming in this expansion.

It’s unclear how effective Meteorologist will be, though. It could mean that Blizzard is trying to push a big-hand Mage theme in this expansion.

The Boomsday Project is the second Hearthstone expansion of the current Standard year, the Year of the Raven. It’ll introduce 135 cards to the game, including new keywords like Magnetic. The set can now be preordered and all of the cards will become available on Aug. 7.
