Nintendo’s latest mobile title has come a long way in a short time.

Even with the server issues that plagued the game upon launch and a controversial pricing system that may leave some players in the dark, Mario Kart Tour has had no trouble dominating the mobile circuit.

Following its release yesterday, Sensor Tower recently reported that the iPhone version of Nintendo’s latest mobile effort has already become the top free iPhone app. And not just here, but across 58 markets in all. That includes Japan.

As far as revenue goes, however, it’s not quite the top moneymaker. At least, not yet. Sensor Tower noted that the racing game sits in the 19th spot when it comes to sales in the United States. That doesn’t include global revenue.

Despite the game not being number one across the board, its success cannot be denied. The last mobile release from the company, Dr. Mario World, couldn’t even get into the top 500 of iPhone’s top revenue makers. And Fire Emblem Heroes, which has been a big hit since its launch back in 2017, hit 17th place when it first launched.

So while Mario Kart Tour is off to a great start, all eyes are on users to see how they respond to the game’s microtransactions. This includes an expansion pass that enables the opening up of certain events within the game, as well as optional purchases to make the entire game playable – which should run around $10 or so.

It’ll be interesting to see how its progress holds up over the next few weeks, but here’s hoping Nintendo continues to make improvements, as this one could go the distance.

Mario Kart Tour is available for download now.
