Cyberpunk 2077 will be a little shorter than The Witcher 3, but offer more replayability, according to CD Projekt Red.
According to an attendee of CD Projekt Red’s yearly polish community meeting, the developer has revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 will be a little shorter than The Witcher 3, but offer more replayability. This comparison involves just the main story, and the primary side quests, according to Redditor shavod.
The information makes sense, as the different character builds in Cyberpunk 2077 will impact how you approach missions, offering instant replayability should you choose to create your character differently each time. In The Witcher 3, Geralt was Geralt, and your approach to any mission would be the same as any other player.
CD Projekt Red is also approaching side quests in Cyberpunk 2077 a little differently to how they approached them in The Witcher 3. In their upcoming take on the classic pen-and-paper RPG, many of the side quests will have an impact on the main story itself, while in The Witcher 3, they existed almost entirely separately to the main events of the game. They can also impact other side quests and will offer plenty of variance in how each player’s game can develop.
Shavod also had some other exciting bits of information about the upcoming game. CD Projekt Red said that they hope to strike a right balance in loot that is useful to the player, and items from which they won’t benefit. It’s is a design decision based on the fact that enemies only dropping things that the player finds useful would be somewhat immersion breaking. Instead, enemies will also drop items that might be relevant to them, but not related to you. They plan on using this as a form of world-building, as the things people drop should have a function outside merely being a game mechanic, and can also teach you things about the world you are playing in, and the people who live there.
CD Projekt Red also confirmed that they wish to implement a post-credits experience, a way to continue playing the game after the main story is complete. No details were offered, as the developer said they wanted people to experience it for themselves.
The game will also feature a day and night cycle, which will have an impact on the world. Some areas may be more or less populated at night time, which will impact your decision making. Dynamic weather will change the world, but not the gameplay. They also mentioned that they are looking to carefully balance the different classes so that one does not dominate the others in terms of gameplay.
As we learn more information about the game, it seems that CD Projekt Red is approaching it with the same level of care and attention to detail, which made The Witcher 3 such a success.
Cyberpunk 2077 will release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on April 16, 2020.
