So you just picked up one of the new Poké Ball Plus controllers for the Nintendo Switch games Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! You load up the game, connect the controller, and get ready to play, only to find out that you don’t know how to use the Poké Ball Plus.

It’s fine, it happens. Luckily, the device is really simple to use.

Poké Ball Plus controls

The joystick is located in the center of the controller—it allows you to move around and select options. It acts as your main “A” button as well. You have to click it in to select things or confirm actions.

There’s also the button on the top of the device that acts as your “X” button if it were a Joy-Con. This is used to open menus in-game and perform actions.

You can access anything that requires you to use the “Y” button by shaking the controller.

Sadly, other than these functions, the Poké Ball Plus doesn’t have any other buttons. So you can’t use a “B” option, for example. For this reason, a lot of trainers are choosing to avoid the Poké Ball Plus and just play with the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con, which offers many more uses in-game.

As for connecting the controller to the Nintendo Switch, simply lift the latch at the back of thePlus controller underneath the wrist strap and pop the cable that comes with the Poké Ball Plus into it. Connect the USB into the Switch dock and it should connect once you press the Plus Controller’s thumbstick button.
