FIFA 20 has just been announced by EA, due to be released on September 27. Along with the new gameplay improvements expected by EA, there was a surprise new mode announced, with the new VOLTA mode showcased on the gameplay video.

FIFA 20: What is VOLTA?

Well, it’s a new mode that brings the game of FIFA back to the streets and allows you as the player to bring your style to the game. Playing from several locations, from the cages of Amsterdam to the rooftops of Tokyo, the VOLTA brings you a mixture of street football, similar to that of the FIFA Street series, and the real world of FUTSAL.

The game mode will be built on a gameplay engine explicitly made for VOLTA, but with the experience still grounded in realism. It translates from Portuguese to ‘to return,’ which is fitting considering the popularity of the street game in Portugal and the series returning to the style of football.

Not only will you be able to take on many current teams in stand play modes, but there will also be a narrative-driven mode inside VOLTA that will allow you to write your own story. The game can be played as 3v3 Rush (No GK’s), 4v4, 4v4 Rush, 5v5 and Professional FUTSAL, meaning that there’s plenty of different styles to choose from. It will also use the chemistry system similar to that of the Ultimate Team mode, so finding the right players to fit the team best is better than simply picking every top player in the game. Beating a team gives you access to the opponent’s team, meaning you can take a player to improve your team further.

Online will also include the traditional leagues that you get in standard online multiplayer, where you can work your way up the leagues to the best players.

There will be more revealed about VOLTA in time, but we hope that this gives you an idea of what the new mode will be about.
