Pulling off spectacular combos in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 is what makes the game so much fun to play. Chaining long grinds and pulling off spinning airwalks through dangerous obstacles is where you’ll find the thrill of the skate.
Almost everything that you can do is customizable, from the types of grabs and grinds you can do to the special tricks that you can pull off. With that said, it’s not obvious as to how the special meter works in the game, especially if you are not familiar with the original games.
Firstly, to build the special meter, you simply need to perform standard tricks successfully. It doesn’t take long to build up the special gauge to full, and once it’s there, you can attempt a bunch of special tricks that can rack up some huge combos. They will require more button presses and timing to land successfully, but you’ll receive a higher reward for your endeavor.
To see what special moves you can pull off, head to the pause or main menu, and go to the Skater tab. Here, there will be a tricks option, with five slots to begin with that include two-directional bindings that you need to use to start the trick. For example, if you bind the 360 Varial McTwist to Down, Left, and the flip button, using this combination while your special meter is full will execute the trick for you.
These can be bound to whichever combination of buttons you wish, with a huge selection of special tricks that can then be attempted on a level.
When pulling them off, you will hear a beep sound that will indicate that you are using a special move, and you’ll see the name of the trick in yellow at the bottom of the screen. String these together into more tricks for some huge points.
