Picking locks is quite straight forward. In order to pick a lock, you merely have to find the sweet spot and then keep the pick in that spot while turning the lock. A mod is available to help you as a visual guide.
One of the fun things to do in Kingdom Come: Deliverance is sneaking around in areas that Henry isn’t supposed to be. In order to get there, you must know how to lock pick efficiently. Picking locks is a skill in the game which will increase every time you apply it, and Lockpicks are available for purchase in many locations. Aside from not getting caught, let’s have a look at how the actual mechanic of lock picking works.
How to Pick a Lock
Whether you’re picking the lock of a door or chest, the concept is the same. Henry must have at least one Lockpick in his possession. The more the better because if you fail, you will break the pick and it will be removed from Henry’s inventory (unless you have a specific perk that gives you chance to bring back a broken Lockpick). Fortunately, many vendors will sell Lockpicks, and you don’t even need to visit a shady one. The first vendor you’re likely to encounter is in Talmberg. The various Millers will also carry Lockpicks for Henry to purchase.
Once you’ve decided on which lock to pick, make sure you pay attention to the difficulty level of the lock. Some of the harder ones may be unavailable for you to even attempt if Henry’s skill level is too low. Otherwise, even a Hard lock isn’t too difficult to pick if you know what you’re doing and have had some practice. Speaking of practice, Miller Peshek will let you practice to your heart’s content, without the risk of losing valuable Lockpicks.
The lockpicking mini game will show you a cross section of a lock and the controls. The goal here is to use your mouse cursor until the circle inside the reticle is golden and as large as can be. That is the spot you should keep the reticle in while you rotate the lock. On PC, you use the D key to rotate and the mouse to hold the reticle in the same place throughout the rotation. It needs to move with the lock. If you veer off too much, the Lockpick will break. Depending on the difficulty of the lock, the mini game is more or less forgiving.
Sectorial Lockpicking Mod
If you want some assistance with lock picking, the Sectorial Lockpicking Mod by Tyddy, can be of great help. It breaks the lock up into several sections, thus making it easier to visualize where to keep the Lockpick while rotating the lock.
To install the mod, simply follow these simple instructions:
- Download one of the two different styles of the mod
- Navigate to your Kingdom Come: Deliverance game folder in the Steam folder. The default is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\KingdomComeDeliverance\
- Go to the “Data” folder
- Extract the contents of the rar file you downloaded into your Data folder
