As season 14 gets underway, many League of Legends players are coming back to the game to try and figure out if their favorite champions will do well in 2024.
One of the biggest changes in the 2024 season is the repositioning of the mid-lane brush, which has given way to the mid-lane being slightly harder to gank, meaning that mid-laners will spend more time in 1v1 situations. Because of the longer lane, many players are leaning on classic champions. This guide will focus on Fizz in the mid-lane and explore options for items, summoner spells, and matchups that you should avoid so you don’t lose that precious LP.
The Best Rune Setup for Fizz in 2024
Fizz is known as a fairly one-dimensional, all-in-one assassin, which means he doesn’t have a ton of complexity in his pre-game setup. Take the Electrocute Keystone in the Domination Tree to enhance Fizz’s fantastic ability to do burst damage. While other champions often have many different mastery builds, every sector of the community is steadfast in understanding that you take Electrocute on Fizz. From there, you can finish your primary mastery path by taking Sudden Impact, then Eyeball Collection, and finally Treasure Hunter. For a more detailed breakdown of every rune ability in this set up see the table below.
Ability | Tree | Description |
---|---|---|
Electrocute | Domination | Hitting a champion with 3 separate attacks or abilities in 3s deals bonus adaptive damage. |
Sudden Impact | Domination | Gain a burst of Lethality and Magic Penetration after using a dash, leap, blink. teleport, or when leaving stealth. |
Eyeball Collection | Domination | Collect eyeballs on champion takedowns. Gain permanent AD or AP, for each eyeball plus bonus upon collection completion. |
Treasure Hunter | Domination | Unique takedowns grants gold. |
Coup de Grace | Precision | Deal more damage to low health enemy champions. |
Triumph | Precision | Scoring a takedown against an enemy champion heals you and grants you an additional 20 gold. |
To finish off your rune page, we recommend taking two nodes of Adaptive Force and one node of either Armor or Magic Resist, depending on the damage of your lane opponent.
To finish out the pre-game setup, we need to talk about Summoner Spells. While you can take safety spells like Teleport, you really aren’t getting the most out of Fizz if you don’t run flash and ignite. The quicker you can use your ignite to gain control of your lane, the quicker you can snowball the rest of the game.
Fizz is currently in the top ten of most-picked champions, according to OP.GG, which means that it’s very possible we’ll see her return to pro play this season. We’re going to take a moment to talk about matchups you’ll want to avoid in order to succeed in the lane.
The Best Bans for Fizz in 2024
While playing Fizz can be an absolute joy, he will regularly struggle against champions like Ekko, Gragas, Gallio, Aniva, or anyone with a crowd control ability in their basic ability toolset. If you find yourself stuck in a lane against any of these champions, your best course of action is to push your lane as best you can and start roaming around looking for other kills to supplement your bad lane.
Skill Order and Items for Fizz in 2024
The skill order for Fizz is to max E by level 9, then W by level 13, and Q by 18. Fizz’s E is her signature ability that makes Fizz untargetable and deals damage in a circular area where she lands. Ideally, you are using this both to begin and end and the standard combo in the lane phase. E will also help you drop turret agro if you find yourself overextending.
Below is a full breakdown of each ability.
Ability | Description |
---|---|
Passive: Nimble Fighter | Fizz can move through units and takes a flat amount of reduced damage from all sources |
Q: Urchin Strike | Fizz dashes through his target, dealing magic damage and applying on hit effects. |
W: Seastone Trident | Fizz’s attacks bleed his enemies, dealing magic damage over several seconds. Fizz can empower his next attack to deal bonus damage and empower his further attacks for a short time. |
E: Playful / Trickster | Fizz hops into the air, landing gracefully upon his spear and becoming untargetable. From this position, Fizz can either slam the ground or choose to jump again before smashing back down. |
R: Chum the Waters | Fizz tosses a fish in a direction that attaches to any champion that touches it, slowing the target. After a short delay, a shark erupts from the ground, knocking up the target and knocking any nearby enemies aside. All enemies hit are dealt magic damage and slowed. |
Fizz’s ultimate ability sends out a shark to do massive damage in a circular area. The key to Fizz’s ult is that it must latch on to a champion to do damage to them. Because of this, it’s always a good idea to throw the ultimate just a little bit past the visual indicator on the ground in order to make sure it lands.
Once you’re in the game, the build structure for Fizz is easy; you want a bunch of ability power to do magic damage, and then you want magic penetration to keep doing damage in the late game. Items like Stormsurge and Lich Bane have the added bonus of giving players movement speed, making it easier to not only hunt for more kills but also escape sticky situations. It’s generally recommended that you just pick up items that have tons of ability power, like Rabbidon’s Deathcap, Void Staff, or Shadowflame. Once you begin to feel comfortable, we recommend using Zohnya’s hourglass to bolster Fizz’s ability to remain untargetable for as long as possible. It’s important to remember that builds should be adjusted game to game based on the team you are playing, so while magic pen boots are our general suggestion, you should consider other boots like Mercery Treads if you are against a team with a lot of crowd control.
