Mewtwo is one of the more powerful legendary Pokémon in Pokémon Go. You have a chance to catch it every so often, and figuring out the best moveset to teach it is critical to ensure you can get the most out of this Pokémon.
Narrowing down the best moveset can be difficult, and there are multiple combinations you can go with, but certain choices stand out far above others. Here’s what you need to know about the best moveset for Mewtwo in Pokemon Go.
The Best Moveset for Mewtwo in Pokemon Go
Mewtwo is a Psychic-type Pokémon in Pokemon Go. It’s weak to Bug, Dark, and Ghost-type attacks, and it’s resistant to Fighting and Psychic-type moves.

When you catch it, the best stats it has scale it up to a maximum CP of 4,724, an attack of 264, a defense of 165, and stamina of 192. While it has lower defense than many would feel comfortable with, Mewtwo has an incredible attack in Pokemon Go, making it one of the best Pokémon in the game, especially in its shadow form. The standard form is excellent for the Master League Classic and a go-to option for many Pokemon Go players, such as Gym battles.
You can use Mewtwo in nearly any medium of Pokemon Go, from PvP to Raids. There’s no limit to where you can use it, making it one of the preferred Pokemon in the mobile game, and it frequently appears in events.
All Mewtwo Fast Attacks in Pokemon Go
These are all the fast attacks that Mewtwo can learn in Pokemon Go.
- Confusion (Psychic-type) – 16 damage and 3 energy per turn (4 damage per turn) – 4 turns
- Psycho cut (Psychic-type) – 3 damage and 4.5 energy per turn (1.5 damage per turn) – 2 turns
You won’t have too many options when selecting Mewtwo’s Fast Attack in Pokemon Go. Because of these limited choices, it’s pretty easy to select the best of these two, which can vary. However, because of Mewtwo’s larger stats, you normally want to place it in the Master League.
This way, there’s no limit to its level, and you can reach the highest stats available with Mewtwo, which means you want to teach it Psycho Cut. Although it might not perform as much damage as Confusion, Psycho Cut provides Mewtwo with a large amount of energy, which it can use with its charged attacks.
All Mewtwo Charged Moves in Pokemon Go
- Flamethrower (Fire-type) – 90 damage and 55 energy
- Focus Blast (Fighting-type) – 150 damage and 75 energy
- Hyper Beam (Normal-type) – 150 damage and 80 energy
- Ice Beam (Ice-type) – 90 damage and 55 energy
- Psychic (Psychic-type) – 90 damage and 55 energy (10% chance to lower the opponent’s defense rank by 1)
- Psystrike (Psychic-type) – 90 damage and 45 energy
- Shadowball (Ghost-type) – 100 damage and 55 energy
- Thunderbolt (Electric-type) – 90 damage and 55 energy
Now, unlike the Fast Attacks, Mewtwo has several Charged Moves for you to pick through. These choices can be overwhelming, and the wide variety of options also makes it slightly difficult to figure out which ones you should be using in Pokemon Go. I’m someone who prefers to double down on a Pokemon using their strengths, rather than trying to cover a wide range of typing. For example, my go-to option for Mewtwo’s Charged Moves are going to be Psystrike and Shadow Ball. These are both exceptionally strong, and they give Mewtwo a chance to deal more damage since Psystrike is a Psychic-type move.
Some players in Pokemon Go have gone with Ice Beam, Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, or even Focus Blast if they want to add more coverage to Mewtwo, but I don’t prefer this. It’s not something I normally think about for my teams, but that might not be the same for you. If you need to switch up attacks for Mewtwo, feel free to do so, and you may want to drop Psystrike, and keep Shadow Ball.
The best moveset you can teach Mewtwo in Pokemon Go is the fast move Psycho Cut, and the charged moves, Psystrike and Shadow Ball.
