As usual, the Pack-A-Punch machine plays an integral part in uncovering Blood of the Dead’s story and all the special wonders it holds for inquisitive survivors. Follow along with our Pack-A-Punch guide if piecing together the first part of the puzzle is giving you a headache.

Blood of the Dead Pack-A-Punch guide – Spectral Shield

Building a Spectral Shield is the first step in unlocking the Blood of the Dead Pack-A-Punch machine. There are three parts you need to get, and they have multiple different spawn locations. Here’s where you can find them:

  • Spectral Shield Part #1Head to the Citadel Tunnels. The part may have spawned to the right of the door with the spiral stairs leading to China Alley.
  • Alternate Spawn – It may spawn inside China Alley, at the top of the stairwell to the Citadel Tunnels.
  • Alternate Spawn – The final potential spawn location is at the top of the same spiral staircase, next to the locked elevator cage.

After grabbing the first part, just keep chugging along to either Times Square, Michigan Avenue, or the Library.

  • Spectral Shield Part Two – This part is called the Afterlife Essence and glows dimly. It can be found on the first floor of Times Square, hanging on the wall near the Auger DMR wall buy.
  • Spectral Shield Alternate Spawn – It can also pop up in the library inside a glowing box.
  • Secondary Alt Spawn – Finally, it can spawn under the Michigan sign at Michigan Avenue.

The final missing piece is the Warden Key. Once you’ve turned on both power switches, a mini-boss will spawn. When you kill him, he’ll drop the Warden Key, and you can move on to piecing all the parts together.

Once you’ve got all three parts, head to one of two workbenches to build the shield:

  • Blood of the Dead Workbench One – At the Docks, on the right of the stairs.
  • Blood of the Dead Workbench Two – Cell Block Third Floor, on the left, when you’re facing the Gondola.

Charging the Spectral Shield

Before activating Pack A Punch, you need to power up the shield you’ve just built. Equip it and kill as many zombies as possible with the secondary fire soul-draining attack. This uses the Warden Key as a weapon and slowly charges the key with the dead zombies. Once it’s fully charged, head to the roof of the prison.

When you get to the roof, you’ll see the Pack-A-Punch machine in all of its glory. Aim at the power gauge on the side and fire your Spirit Blast at it to charge it

The Pack-A-Punch machine will now be activated, and you can spend 5,000 hard-earned points to upgrade your weapons. There’s still plenty to do in Blood of the Dead, though, so strap in with our Spoon and Golden Spork guides if you want to tackle all of the map’s Easter eggs.
