There are a handful of reasons for Destiny 2 to go down. It’s a live service game, but it’s still unique among that genre. Sometimes servers can go down due to sheer levels of players, an update might go wrong, or Telesto could break the game. However, there are ways to check if the game is down for all players and why.

At the time of writing, Destiny 2‘s servers are down for maintenance for a Season of the Wish update that adds new mechanics to the game to help it last through to The Final Shape expansion. Servers should be back up soon, though there may be an update file that players must download before they can play.

The official Bungie Help Twitter account has posted about the maintenance. There’s no end time for the maintenance, meaning it could take a few more minutes, or it could go on for hours. The expected end time is 11 AM PT, but we will update this article if it goes on longer or there’s an update on the information given.

Even once the update goes live, players will likely need to download more files before they can play Destiny 2 again. So players should be aware that they may not be able to get into the game even once the update is live. This is the point for every update that most players tend to forget about, so it’s worth noting now before being disappointed. The update will be adding many new features, such as additional weekly quests and dozens of new items to collect with an extra currency that players will build up over time.

Stay tuned to the Bungie Help Twitter page and Sony’s support page on Twitter; follow them to get the most recent news about the server connection status. Alternatively, you can check the DownDetector for Destiny 2 or follow the Bungie help page to see if there are any changes to the status of the situation.
