As you explore Mondstadt and Liyue, Genshin Impact’s two areas, you will come across many chests. Some of them will just be sitting on the ground or on top of a pillar waiting for you to open them. Others will be guarded by enemies that you need to kill, and some will be hidden behind strange mechanics like following small ghosts or activating elemental pillars.
If you are wondering if these chests will respawn after you open them, the answer is yes and no. Once you get a chest, then it will despawn but there is a chance that it will come back later. They can contain weapons, items, artifacts, and resources, so it is not hard to see why this random element is in the game, as simply running between lots of chest spawns would be very difficult to balance against the rest of the game.
If there is a method or pattern in this, then we have yet to figure it out, but we will be doing our best to monitor how it all behaves to see if we can find any solid method behind it. At the moment it would appear that chest which are protected by mobs can actually respawn, but other chests will not.
The good news is that there are hundreds of chests in the game, so it is a great supply of resources you will find. Chests can come in four rarities, all of which drop different amounts and levels of items and resources.
- Common – 2 Primogems, 20 Adventure Rank, 3 Sigils, random amount of Mora, weapons, artifacts, and XP materials
- Exquisite – 2 to 5 Primogems, 20 – 30 Adventure Rank, 3-4 Sigils, random amount of Mora, weapons, artifacts, and XP materials
- Precious – 10 Primogems, 30 Adventure Rank, 4-10 Sigils, random amount of Mora, weapons, artifacts, and XP materials
- Luxurious – 10 Primogems, 30 Adventure Rank, 4-10 Sigils, random amount of Mora, weapons, artifacts, and XP materials
Common chests are easy to find, showing up all over the map. Exquisite chests spawn from combat challenges, monster fights, puzzles, and time trials. Precious chests spawn from complex puzzles, world quests, and NPC time trials. Finally, Luxurious chests will spawn in very well hidden spots and can be found in the Shrines of Depths.
