Everything We Know About the New Skate Game
Are There Microtransactions in Skate?
Skate will be a free-to-play title, meaning there is no upfront cost for you to be able to play it. That being said, there will be microtransactions, but they are not supposed to affect gameplay whatsoever. Microtransactions in Skate are merely supposed to be cosmetic and convenience-based. No gameplay content will be locked behind these purchases, and there will be no paid expansions. The game is a live-service title that you will be able to play nonstop without putting any money down if you so desire.
How’s The Gameplay?
From what we have seen so far, Skate’s gameplay looks similar to what you know from the past. It’s not quite as arcadey as a Tony Hawk game, but it’s not a one-to-one simulation either. All we have seen as of this writing is a lot of very early looks at the game, so things may change. If that happens, we will update this article.
Is Skate 4 Going To Be Free?
Yes, Skate 4 will be free to play. The game was announced as free by EA in 2022. They also confirmed that the game will now be called Skate instead of Skate 4. This seems to be an initiative to distance this title from previous numbered entries as a true evolution for the series. The developers are hoping for a true Sandbox-styled skating sim with unlimited content.
Will Skate 4 Have Cross Play?
Skate will have crossplay for the PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 4. The game will also have co-progression between the platforms, which is great news for players who own multiple gaming devices. It will be available on launch day. There’s no news currently if there are multiple servers, one megaserver, or peer-to-peer.
Will Skate 4 Be on Mobile?
The newest Skate title will appear on mobile, according to the publisher, Electronic Arts. It hasn’t been confirmed if it will be available on both iPhone and Android, though it seems likely it will be released for both options. It is also possible players will have the option to stream it using many of the popular services now available.
