Nearly three years after Fallout 4, a new entry in the post-apocalyptic series is due out soon with the reveal of Fallout 76. But what exactly is this new game?

Little is known about the title so far before its reveal at E3 2018, but a few things can be gleaned from both the title of the game and its reveal trailer. Fallout 76 will involve Vault 76, which has been mentioned a couple of times in previous games in the series.

The trailer shows a pristine Vault 76, which looks like its doors are still closed, leaving life on the inside somewhat untouched as of yet. Other vaults in the series that have been opened and explored by players are dilapidated, destroyed, and overrun with creatures. This one looks like a party just went down or never happened.

Vault 76 was a “control vault” in Vault-Tec’s overarching experiment on the vaults, which were set up to experiment on humanity. The plan was to release 76’s 500 inhabitants into the world 20 years after the bombs went off to restart society, so the game could follow that plot.

Rumors are abound that this is not any ordinary Fallout game, though. Kotaku’s Jason Schreier says that the game will be multiplayer, and not a traditional single-player RPG, calling it “an online game of some sort.”

Schreier went on to say that three sources familiar with the project have said that the game is an “online survival RPG” in the vein of games like DayZ and Rust. Needless to say, this would be quite a departure for the series.

In any case, more will be revealed during Bethesda’s E3 presentation on June 10. Stay tuned for more information as it comes into the open, such as a release date, gameplay information, and more.
