Genshin Impact Time and Wind quest guide – unlock the two secret sundials

A long, but worthwhile hidden quest.

Genshin Impact has a massive amount of side-quests and hidden achievements. One of these quests, Time and Wind, requires you to travel to a small island not charted on your map and do some detective work to unlock the two secret sundials. This quest can be done anytime, but we recommend bringing some stat food and a few non-Anemo characters with decent gear before you begin. Here’s the Time and Wind quest guide to discover the secret of the uninhabited island.

Note: While you want non-Anemo characters for the boss fight, make sure Traveler is attuned to Anemo before beginning the trip or bring an Anemo character with a fast-recharging Elemental Skill. There are puzzles that require Anemo skills to solve.

There are two ways to reach the island — by having at least 200 stamina and stamina-replenishing food and jumping from Starsnatch Cliff pictured below or by using Kaeya’s Elemental Skill and building an ice bridge from the coastline to the island. The former is definitely faster, but it requires you to have obtained many Anemoculi and Geoculi and leveled your Statues of the Seven up a fair amount. If you’re not quite at that point, then the ice bridge method will work — but it will take around 20 minutes, and if you fail to spam the ability, you can get reset back to the shore.

When you arrive at the island, head to the center and find the Ravaged Carving. This is the first of the sundials, and by interacting with it, Paimon will mention using Elemental Sight — middle mouse button on PC or L1 + Left D-Pad on controller.

Head to the beach on the right side of the carving, and you will find a pile of rocks near a tent. Smash them to find the note that you need.

Head back to the Sundial and change the time of day to 2 AM. You can access this feature by opening up your Menu and selecting the Clock icon — rotate the dials until you arrive at 1:55 AM to maximize the time you have for the next section.

Once 2 AM hits, turn on Elemental Sight. You will see four orbs on the Sundial, representing the four orbs you need to disperse.

You can find the orbs in the following locations:

  • Directly behind the sundial on the ruined wall that sticks out of the sea
  • On the right side of the beach on a rounded rock sticking out of the sea
  • On the left side of the beach on a square rock sticking out of the sea
  • On top of the tall pillar near the sundial

To destroy the orbs, cast an Anemo ability directly on top of them. Anemo-Traveler’s Elemental Skill is ideal, but any Anemo ability should work. You need to destroy all four orbs between 2 AM and 5 AM — if you don’t, just reset the time and try again. You will retain the progress you have already made.

Head back to the Sundial and use an Anemo ability on it — this frees up a more powerful Eye of the Storm boss than you’re used to, so get ready for a tough fight. When it gets weakened, it will run away, activating a powerful wind column and series of wind rings to glide through. Use your glider to follow it all the way to the Wind Temple.

When you arrive a the Wind Temple, you will see an NPC named Henry Morton. You can find his location shown on the map above. Talk to him, then check the book in his tent for more clues.

Like the previous island, you will need to use Elemental Sight and Anemo skills to clear four orbs around the Sundial. Do so, activate an Anemo skill at the second Sundial, and get ready for round two with Eye of the Storm. In this second round, the Eye will spawn some add creatures to deal with, and it’s best if you take them out first before whittling down the rest of the bosses HP. After defeating it, talk to Henry Morton to finish the quest.
