How big is the PlayStation 5? – dimensions, measurements, and size comparisons

The tallest and thickest and Sony console ever.
This article is over 3 years old and may contain outdated information

As the release date of the PlayStation 5 draws closer, fans are getting impatient to know more about the highly anticipated console. One of the most important aspects people have been curious about is the size of the console. An image editor had earlier made an illustration giving a rough idea of the size of the console; however, we finally have some real pictures of the console.

As pictured by Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC), the PlayStation 5 appears to be significantly thicker than the previous console. This is likely due to the console’s specifications that might require better cooling to keep thermals in check.

The exact dimensions are as followed, per the official PlayStation Blog:

  • PS5: Approx. 390mm x 104mm x 260mm (width x height x depth)(excludes largest projection, excludes Base)
  • PS5 Digital Edition: Approx. 390mm x 92mm x 260mm (width x height x depth)(excludes largest projection, excludes Base)

These dimensions were used as a reference for fan-made 3D models comparing the PS5’s size to that of other consoles.

Like the previous illustrations had suggested, the PlayStation 5 will indeed be the tallest console Sony has ever made. However, considering the fact that Sony has done a pretty good job on the console’s aesthetics, the size isn’t something that should be much of a concern. That being said, it will be interesting to see if Sony releases a newer version with a revamped design later down the line.
