Debuting in Pokémon X and Y, Vivillon is a dual flying/bug type that can take on different forms/appearances. These forms don’t have any noticeable difference in gameplay, as they are all aesthetic. The only thing that changes is the color of its wings. For Pokémon veterans, you may have noticed that Vivillon has not appeared since X and Y, which is why it’s a big deal for fans of the Pokémon. But how many of its forms made it to Scarlet and Violet?
All Vivillon forms in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
For the first several months after the release of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Vivillon fans had to make do with a harsh truth — that the only variation of Vivillon they’d be able to capture or evolve would be its Fancy Form. Regardless of where in Paldea they caught their Pokémon, it would only have that one form.
Happily, the tables have turned as of update 1.2.0 to the games. One of the key features added to Pokémon Scarlet and Violet with this patch was connectivity with Pokémon Go, and the ability to send Postcards from Go to Scarlet or Violet. In Pokémon Go, these Postcards were the key to finding different variations of Vivillon, and they function similarly in Scarlet and Violet — when you send a Postcard from a particular region to your Switch, you’ll start to encounter that region’s variation of Vivillon in the wild in Paldea, giving players a chance to truly catch ’em all. There are 18 Vivillon forms in total available in Pokémon Go, requiring global travel or far-flung friends to find them all. Along with Scarlet and Violet’s Fancy Form, that makes 19 total.
Vivillon is found in multiple regions of the map, including the South Province Area Six, the Northern Province Area One, Two, and Three, Tagtree Thicket, and in the East Paldean Sea. If you want to evolve a Scatterbug into a Vivillon, you’ll need to first train it to level 9, so it evolves into Spewpa, and then raise Spewpa to level 12, so it evolves into Vivillon. It’s another example of bug Pokémon evolving at a low level. Its Pokédex entry from Scarlet reads: “The patterns on this Pokémon depend on the climate and topography of the land it was born in. This form is from a mysterious land.”

If you want a Vivillon on your team, its stats aren’t anything to write home about. With a base attack of 50, special attack of 90, and speed of 90, it will not be your team’s heavy hitter. But bug types have their supporters all the same, and now those fans can indulge in even more Vivillon-collecting.
