There are few things as aggravating as attempting to log in to a game and hitting a wall in the form of an error code. Black Desert Online can periodically experience an outage, resulting in “Error Code 904” when you attempt to start the game through Steam. Why is this happening, and how can you fix it?
The answer has never been directly addressed by Pearl Abyss, but we do know that the error typically appears when Steam provides an update to the platform. If you open Steam and see the usual “Updating Steam” message, there’s a chance that this could be the cause.
Although there is likely a more technical explanation, one method has been shown to fix this error code:
- While browsing your Steam library, find the listing for Black Desert Online, and right-click on the name of the game.
- Scroll down to Properties, and then choose Local Files.
- From here, you can click on Verify Files. There’s a chance that this could solve the issue and let you get back to playing the game.
If that doesn’t work, you can open a support ticket on Pearl Abyss’s official Black Desert Online page. Choose the Technical option, and select Steam Error from the dropdown Category list. Fill out the rest of the necessary information and submit your ticket, including a screenshot of your desktop if you want. You can also tweet @BDO_News to let them know of the problem; typically, they will address any updates about errors through their Twitter account.
