Mystery Gifts make a return in Pokémon Sword and Shield, which is sure to go some way toward making people happy. Who doesn’t like gifts? Using the Mystery Gift feature allows you to get Pokémon, items, and essential resources to help you become the best Trainer you can be.

To get Mystery Gifts, follow the below steps:

  • Start the game, choose your starter Pokémon, and progress through the game a little.
  • Press X to open the main menu. Then select the Mystery Gift option.
  • Wait for the game to discover any available Mystery Gifts. They will then be automatically downloaded.

We noticed that the Mystery Gift option became available in the main menu after an early game section involving a Wooloo that we were trying to help. It’s not there from the start of the game, so don’t be worried if you can’t see the Mystery Gift option on the menu yet.

Items from Mystery Gifts go to your bag, clothing items will be available at the Boutique, and BP will be added when you check your League Card. Pokémon will be added to your box, so there will be no need to visit a Pokémon Center.

As a side note, if you have a card in your boxed game that gives you a special Meowth that can Gigantamax, follow the directions on the card carefully to get it.
