After you’ve spent some time in The Lands Between beating bosses and perfecting your play style in Elden Ring, you might realize you made a mistake with some of your stats early on. This is normal since most people don’t know what stats to invest in when they first start playing. Luckily, there’s a way to correct your past mistakes. This guide explains how to respec your stats in Elden Ring so that you can have a build made for you by the end of the game.

How to respec your stats in Elden Ring
To respec your character in Elden Ring, you first need to find and defeat Rennalla Queen of the Full Moon. She’s located at the Raya Lucaria Academy in Lucaria of the Lakes. This will be when you get to the game’s third major area, Stormveil Castle, if you’re not spending too much time backtracking and exploring.
Rennalla becomes a passive NPC once you beat her. She’ll offer you something called “Rebirth” when you interact with her, which is the key to changing your stats. In exchange for Larval Tears, you can change your stats and respec your character over and over again. If you want to respec your character for a specific boss and then change them up again for a future boss, you can do so. All you need is a good supply of Larval Tears.
When should you respec your character?
The best time to respec your character in Elden Ring is when you want to try out a new build. If you’ve been playing as a tank with a colossal weapon that ignores pain, getting up close and personal with everything you see, then you might want to try a different approach in certain areas or against specific bosses. Magic builds can be incredibly powerful, but you can’t simply switch out the equipment your character is using as a tank to make them into a magic user. You need a complete revamp of their stats. The same is true if you’ve been playing as a sneaky assassin and want to become a tankier build or one that specializes in ranged weapons.
Weapons are the second-best reason to respec your character. As you explore The Lands Between, you’ll find incredible weapons like the Blade of Calling. You can’t try out every weapon and piece of gear you find unless you’re willing to respec your character a few times. Often, this will lead to you uncovering a build that you prefer to the one you were using, all because you wanted to try out a new weapon.
The final best reason to respec your character is a boss you simply can’t beat. If your build is hitting the boss over and over to no avail, try respeccing with new gear and weapons to take it down. Some bosses are easier to defeat as a magic user, while tanky soldiers can rip apart others with ease. Don’t be afraid of changing the type of character you’re using. This is a feature of the game that’s built to allow you to explore, and you should use it. If it were an exploit, it wouldn’t be in the game.
