How to socket a Challenger Medallion into the Hammer of Proving in Destiny 2 – Challenger’s Proving

It's a little confusing.

For one of the steps in the opening quest in Season of the Chosen, you will need to socket a Challenger Medallion into the Hammer of Proving, a new seasonal item in Destiny 2. This is a little confusing, so in this guide, we will run through it with you.

If you open up your Quests tab and right-click on the Hammer of Proving, this will bring up the items menu. Here, you can select a Challenger Medallion, it is not something that you need to earn. We assume that as the season progresses and we can upgrade the War Table, we will unlock new varieties of Medallion. What you do need to earn is Cabal Gold, a new currency for this season.

You can earn Cabal Cold in varying amounts by taking part in various different activities in the game. Strikes, Crucible, Gambit, and Nightfalls will all reward you with Cabal Gold, as will certain Bounties and Challenges.

At the moment, Mayhem is active in the Crucible, so if you like you can grinds kills for the Ticuu’s Divination Catalyst and build up some Cabal Gold at the same time.

Once you have enough Gold, you can socket the Challenger Medallion and finish up this part of the quest. For the next step, you can run any of the available Battlegrounds, or join one through the playlist under the Vanguard section. You will need to defeat the final boss and open the Tribute Chest to advance the quest further.
