How to unlock Super Sonic in Sonic Origins

Super Sonic speed!

In the 90s, there was no bigger way to claim bragging rights in a Sonic the Hedgehog game than unlocking Super Sonic. This essentially Super Saiyan form of the blue hedgehog makes him invincible, while immensely increasing his speed and jumping ability. It is essentially a god mode unlock if you get it, but it’s not always the easiest thing to do. Here is how to unlock Super Sonic in Sonic Origins.

How to get Super Sonic in Sonic Origins

There are two ways to become Super Sonic in Sonic Origins, legitimately or through cheat codes. We should also note that this applies only to Sonic 1, 2, and 3 & Knuckles. Sonic CD does not have Chaos Emeralds to allow Sonic to transform.

To legitimately unlock Super Sonic, you must collect all seven Chaos Emeralds from each game’s special stages. When you have them all, collect 50 rings, jump, and press X on Nintendo Switch, Triangle on PlayStation, or Y on Xbox. Tails and Knuckles also have super forms, but they do not transform quite like Sonic does. Here is how to access each game’s special stages.

Before you attempt to become Super Sonic in the first game, press Up, Down, Left, Right, and A on the title screen to bring up the level select. In the bottom right corner, you will need to set Max Emeralds to 07. Only six Emeralds existed when this game was originally released, and Super Sonic was not a thing yet.

After setting the max Emeralds, you will need to collect 50 rings before you pass the end-stage goal. There will be a giant ring you need to jump into. The level will have you guiding Sonic through an obstacle course as a ball without hitting the flashing red sections that throw you out.

The special stages in Sonic 2 can be accessed by gathering 50 rings and passing a checkpoint. A ring of stars will spin out that you need to jump into.

These special stages have you running down lanes collecting rings while avoiding bombs. You need to grab the proper number of rings before reaching the end three times to get the Chaos Emerald.

For Sonic 3, giant rings will appear in hidden areas you can jump into. There is no ring requirement for them to appear. These special stages have you collect all blue spheres on a giant spherical level without touching any red ones. If you circle a group of blue spheres, they will turn into rings and increase your overall score.

To automatically start the game with enough Chaos Emeralds to turn into Super Sonic, you must first input each game’s level select code. From there, go to the Sound Test in the bottom right and play these numbers in order: 04, 01, 02, 06. You will know it is activated when it plays the jingle for when you acquire a Chaos Emerald.
