NHL 21’s player rosters are, for the most part, authentic. While EA Sports does have the rights to use all active NHL, AHL, and CHL players, as well as athletes from various European leagues, there are some cracks in NHL 21’s rosters. NCAA players are amateurs and thus are not eligible to be added to the game. Additionally, EA Sports does not have the rights to KHL players. This can be problematic for those who want authentic rosters in Franchise mode. Luckily, you can create those individuals in the game’s Creation Suite. But can you share those created players and rosters with other NHL users, or can you download other custom rosters? The answer to that question is no.
While the Madden franchise does in fact allow players to share created players and custom draft classes, NHL 21 does not have this feature. Previous NHL games have not had a roster sharing option built-in, and that pattern continues with this year’s game.
The fact that this feature is not in the game once again has to be difficult news for those who have requested on social media and other media channels that it be added. We shall see if it is added in the future, but as of this writing, roster sharing will not be available in NHL 21.
