Is there multiplayer in Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning?

Does the remaster support online or local co-op play?

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning brings the action-RPG to a new generation of players. THQ Nordic’s original game was initially conceived as an MMO but was repackaged as a single-player experience after originally scrapped due to development issues.

With its remaster offering “refined gameplay,” some nostalgic gamers wonder if multiplayer will be supported in Re-Reckoning. Refined gameplay is a broad term, so there is a possibility that it could correspond to multiplayer functionality. So, will Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning have a multiplayer mode?

Unfortunately, the answer is no. Re-Reckoning will be a single-player only game like its original version. The PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One editions will only support game saves with one person, so don’t expect any multiplayer support if you buy it. That goes for online and local co-op functionality too. Neither option exists in Re-Reckoning, so this won’t be a game you can squad up with your friends in.

We know this as the game’s Steam Store page lists Re-Reckoning as a single-player game only. Ordinarily, Steam game pages will states whether a game has multiplayer functionality. Seeing as Re-Reckoning’s page doesn’t, it won’t have a multiplayer mode.

In truth, it would have been too much work for developers Big Huge Games and Kaiko to add multiplayer to Re-Reckoning. It would have led to complications during development and been potentially game-breaking too, so it’s in the game’s best interests to keep Re-Reckoning as a single-player title.
