Nintendo Switch fans get the chance to explore Halcyon when The Outer Worlds launches on June 5. Obsidian Entertainment’s humorous RPG blasted off on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC last October, but Switch owners have had to wait a while to experience the game.

That wait won’t be much longer, but ahead of its release, you’ll want to know how much SSD or HDD space you’ll need for The Outer Worlds. Let’s chart a path out of this solar system and find an answer to your query.

How big is the Nintendo Switch port of The Outer Worlds?

The Outer Worlds will be available to buy in physical and digital formats, but the file size will be the same regardless of which version to purchase. Originally, the physical port was expected to come with a digital download code, but that decision was reversed, and the game will come packaged on a cartridge.

In terms of the game’s file size, it’ll be 9.9 GB. That’s according to The Outer Worldspage listing on the Nintendo website, and you can’t get more official than that. This is, naturally, smaller than the Xbox One, PS4, and PC ports, but it’s sufficient enough to give Switch owners the best experience possible.

We also know that a day one patch for The Outer Worlds will need to be downloaded on release day. We covered this in a separate article and revealed that the patch would be 6.6 GB in size. You’ll need an internet connection to download this. If you choose not to add the patch, the game may be function properly or even load at all, so ensure you download it.

In total, then, you can expect The Outer Worlds Switch file size to weigh in at 15.6 GB. The Switch’s internal storage is 32 GB, so if you’ve got room to spare, simply download it onto the console. If you don’t, we’re sure you’ll have a microSD card lying around that you can store it on.
