Soul Hackers 2 is the latest entry in the Shin Megami Tensei series, which dates back to the Famicom era. Its announcement was met with some skepticism due to its more anime-inspired look, which distinguishes it from the original Soul Hackers art style. Regardless, it’s a good sign for the future of Atlus’ often overlooked franchise. Whether you’re a Shin Megami Tensei veteran or have yet to dip your toes in, you might be wondering when you can get your hands on Soul Hackers 2.
Soul Hackers 2 release date
Soul Hackers 2 releases worldwide on August 26. The follow-up to 1997’s Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers will be playable on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles. Interestingly, the Nintendo Switch is the only modern platform that misses out on the latest installment in Atlus’ long-running turn-based, demon-collecting RPG series.
When does Soul Hackers 2 take place?
As expected, Soul Hackers 2 takes place during the present day. The story revolves around a war between two different groups of devil summoners. Among this faction war, there’s a third party known as Aion, a collective tasked with overlooking humanity. After discovering that the end of the world is nearly upon them, Aion must find a way to prevent this collapse. As players, you take control of a four party squad comprised of Aion agents and former devil summoners.
Soul Hackers 2 gameplay, explained
Soul Hackers 2 introduces a new gameplay feature known as the sabbath system, which is similar in function to the press-turn system introduced in Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne. Since then, the press-turn system provided an extra turn or removed a turn depending on whether a weak point was exploited or an attack missed or was repelled.
The sabbath system in Soul Hackers 2 determines the strength of the attack based on how many stacks are built up through battle based on various actions. When unleashed, the sabbath attack functions like the all-out attack from the Persona series.
