With the next generation of consoles coming later this year, it’s fair to wonder how this transition will affect Madden 21. Individuals who purchase Madden 21 for the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 will, in fact, be able to play the game on the Xbox Series X or the PlayStation 5, so long as the buyer buys within the same family of consoles. However, will the player data for Madden 21, particularly regarding Madden Ultimate Team, from the current generation of consoles import over to the new ones? The Madden developers have answered that question.
In a Madden 21 Gridiron Notes article on August 18, the Madden devs stated that any saved data from Madden Ultimate Team in Madden 21, including cards, virtual currency, and player training, will import over to the next generation. This will import over as long as Madden players buy a new console within the same family of consoles. Meaning, if you want your Xbox One MUT data to move over to next-gen, you have to buy an Xbox Series X. The same goes for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
The Madden development team also noted that this change will not be a “one-time push.” This means that MUT player data for the current-generation version of Madden 21 will co-exist with the next-generation game. To give an example of how this will work, if you make a purchase for a card on the Xbox One, that card can be used in Madden 21 for the Xbox One or the Xbox Series X.
