According to the Wall Street Journal, a new Nintendo Switch model is scheduled to be released in the second half of 2019, probably even by the time next summer ends.

Based on the information gathered by the WSJ, both in the Japanese and American sites, features are still to be determined but from the looks of it the console should be slimmer and feature a better display.

“Nintendo is still debating what new hardware and software features to include in the upgrade and weighing the cost of the features, people with knowledge of the discussions said,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“One option is improving the display, they said. The current Switch uses a lower-end liquid-crystal display without some technologies that are standard in more recent smartphone LCDs.

Updating the display with these technologies would make it brighter, thinner and more energy-efficient. The updated Switch isn’t expected to adopt the organic light-emitting diode or OLED panels used in Apple Inc.’sAAPL 1.22% iPhone X series.

Nintendo is looking to release the new Switch in the latter half of 2019, perhaps as soon as summer, the people said.”

Considering how Nintendo works with hardware updates, this doesn’t come as a surprise. Switch has been released in 2017, so by 2019 it’ll be already 2 years old, a timeframe that looks believable for a slight change.

Anyway, it is yet to be understood which changes will be done on the platform, whether those could be something in the range of PS4 Pro, Xbox One X and New Nintendo 3DS or just another model with better productive process. Price will also be interesting to look at.
