Niantic announced today that new Pokémon are coming to Pokémon GO this summer. As everyone was expecting the release of Generation 4, players were surprised with something else.

In the coming weeks, Pokémon found in Generation 7 will be appearing, but only the ones who hail originally from Kanto. While these Pokémon may be part of the original 150, they are very different.

These Pokémon will be from the tropical Alolan Region, which was introduced in Pokémon Sun and Moon. These unique variants will have different types from their Kanto relatives. While it is no surprise to see elements of Generation 7 in Pokémon GO, it is surprising to see Pokémon from that generation start appearing so soon. If you recall, several outfits were announced for your trainer to wear that came from Generation 7.

It’s a big leap to leave out so many Pokémon, but this isn’t the first time, as some are still missing from previous generations. For those wondering what Alola forms will be coming, TL;DR has a list of those Pokémon below:

  • Rattata
  • Raticate
  • Raichu
  • Sandshrew
  • Sandslash
  • Vulpix
  • Ninetails
  • Diglett
  • Dugtrio
  • Meowth
  • Persian
  • Geodude
  • Gravler
  • Golem
  • Grimer
  • Muk
  • Exeggutor
  • Marowak

No one knows for certain how these Alolan forms will be obtained and how they will evolve, but it will be interesting to see how they play in the form of gym and raid battles. I for one can’t wait to get a hold of the Alolan forms and them to my Pokédex!
