A new teaser has appeared on Electronic Arts’ website that promised the Battlefield series will reveal something in a couple weeks on May 23.

The teaser is simply a date—May 23, 2018—on a blue background, with the hashtag #Battlefield underneath. The URL for the page says “never be the same.”

The site was posted to the forums at ResetEra, and it was discovered from an in-game easter egg in Battlefield 1. Ceiling pipes in the game dripped water in morse code and revealed a message which revealed the URL and an additional message saying “on May 23, Battlefield will never be the same.”

Earlier today, DICE design director Alan Kertz tweeted something that coincides with the teaser. “Finally going to get to see what that game I am working on looks like the 23rd,” he said.”

Recent reports suggest that the game could be called Battlefield V and take place back in World War II. The last entry in the series, Battlefield 1, took place in World War I, and Battlefield 4 had a modern setting.

Another report claimed that the new Battlefield game could have a battle royale mode, piggybacking off of the success of games like Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. If true, it seems like Battlefield would be a natural fit for the genre as it already has parachuting mechanics and large-scale maps.

Regardless, it looks like we all will know more about the future of the Battlefield series as May 23 is less than two weeks away.
