Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War story campaign bug turns off PS4 controller

Waiting for a patch, players have found a workaround.

Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War early users have met an unusual bug on PlayStation 4 that turns off their DualShock 4 controller in a particular portion of the single-player story campaign.

According to the details shared by multiple players on social networks, the third mission in the Black Ops Cold War campaign, called Fractured Jaw, has a moment where you reach a machine gun, and right there, the controller stops working.

This bug has been reported by other users in the same segment of the game and in other modes too, including multiplayer. It’s worth noting that the bug was already encountered in the latest Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War beta, and evidently, it was carried over the main release despite being heavily reported in the weeks ahead.

With the controller totally unresponsive, the only thing left is to go for a full boot cycle by removing the power chord.

We’ve encountered the bug too, but in the character creation portion at the beginning of the campaign. The game returned to play for a minute after the original freeze, which is seemingly happening for the same reason. Treyarch and Raven Software haven’t commented on these claims yet, but they are likely to know that there is such a bug around.

In the meantime, a workaround is possible by going to your Settings, Devices, Controller, and Communication Method, where you should switch from Bluetooth to USB wired. Then, you can use the DualShock with a wire to be sure to avoid the bug. It’s not a definitive fix, but it’s something that can help you play safely until the developers put their hands on the issue.

Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War story campaign is filled with unexpected puzzles and side content to explore — a unicum in the series’ landscape.
