Get ready, trainers – Pokémon Go is finally welcoming Celebi as part of a Special Research mission, as well as launching a new Johto-centric event.

Announced today via the official Pokémon Go blog, the Special Research mission is coming to the game on Aug. 20 as a worldwide event, so everyone will be able to participate. Trainers will complete various tasks to earn additional XP on their way to obtaining a Celebi. Players will only be able to start the mission if they’ve finished the third set of missions for Mew’s Special Research mission.

If you have completed the Special Research mission and or were one of the lucky ones to have nabbed a Celebi during the Pokémon Go Fest in Chicago, you can complete the new set of tasks for more candy to power up your Celebi instead.

While Celebi is obviously the big news here, there’s also a big announcement hiding within the blog post: More Johto Pokémon are on their way, and Field Research related to some of them will be available during the Celebi event.

Additionally, you can pick up a free Celebi T-shirt for your avatar right now via the Style Shop to show the world you’re pumped for the time traveling Pokémon. If that doesn’t strike your fancy, you can also opt to purchase Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver avatar goodies instead, with outfits that will unlock new features as you make Johto medal progress.
