A brand new celebration is coming to Pokémon GO and it’s all about Gen 1 Pokémon originally from the Kanto Region. Starting April 10 at 1 P.M. PDT, more Pokémon from Gen 1 will be seen throughout the wild in Pokémon GO. This gives trainers a great opportunity to catch Pokémon not normally seen since Pokémon GO first launched in 2016. You’ll be able to finally finish off the Kanto medal and get gold, as it is a requirement for special research to catch Mew.

Also during the event, trainers will receive double candy from catching, hatching, and transferring Pokémon. More Gen 1 Pokémon like Aerodactyl and Snorlax will be featured will be featured in raid battles across the world.

Not only will trainers receive double candy, but a special box filled with raid passes will be available to purchase from the in-game shop. You can use these raid passes in any level raid, but I recommend holding on to them for any tier 5 or legendary raid battle.

This event will conclude on April 17, so this is a great time to get out and finish off the Kanto region if you haven’t done so. There has been no word if region locked Pokémon will show up in places where they normally don’t, as this would help trainers fully finish the Kanto PokéDex.

With this Kanto celebration, one has wonder if this means if Niantic is getting ready to release Celebi as a special research assignment and a having a celebration of Gen 2 Pokémon from the Johto region this summer. Whatever Niantic has planned, I know that I and trainers across the world are ready to take on any task set for us.
