Cyberpunk 2077 is a game from the makers of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, in case you missed the last couple of years of news, and this will mean that the experience gained on the latest action RPG title with Geralt of Rivia will be put at good use.

This also includes the way the game is supported post-release, and CD Projekt RED made a great job in that sense, with a lot of free stuff and updates coming before two massive paid expansions. While paid expansions have been ruled out, Cyberpunk 2077 will still take a lot of inspiration from The Witcher 3.

“As a level designer it’s not my decision, but I know the team is definitely looking into what we should do,” Max Pears told VGC.

“With Witcher 3 the game got better with quality of life updates for the community as well, like how we improved the UI and things like that. So we’ll be listening to feedback, but we do have a focus on what the DLC will be.”

“We’ve learnt a lot from Witcher 3 and how that DLC worked. We’ve learnt from that, and that is the strategy for how we’ll apply DLC to Cyberpunk as well,” he added when asked about the scope of the DLC possibly being harmed by the fact they won’t be paid. “We’ll look to take what we’ve learnt from Witcher 3 and apply that.”

It remains to be seen how those free DLC will stand in comparison with the paid expansions of The Witcher 3; perhaps they could be split into more and smaller packages instead of coming in the form of huge pieces of content, or the exact contrary. We can’t tell right now.

Cyberpunk 2077 is releasing on April 16, 2020, for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia at a later date.
