A brand new feature is now live in Destiny 2, giving players the opportunity to test out upcoming changes to PvP. Crucible Labs is its name, and it’s only just beginning now.

Crucible Labs will be a playlist in the Crucible featuring different types of things like game modes and changes to existing modes. This is a quicker way for players to give feedback to Bungie so that the developer can iterate changes better.

“The Crucible team has been working hard behind the scenes to improve Destiny 2’s PvP offering, and to get new content to players more quickly,” said PvP design lead Derek Carroll. “With update 1.2.1, we shipped some bits that will let us turn on our experimental Crucible Labs playlist.”

The first iteration of Crucible Labs today is a new mode called Showdown, which is basically team deathmatch split into three-minute rounds. The team with the most kills at the end of each round wins, and it’s a best-of-five.

“Crucible Labs is a way for our team to try stuff out in the wild, before it’s “done”, and solicit feedback from the community,” Carroll said. “We’ve never done this before, and there will be bumps in the road, but I hope you’ll come along for the ride and help us make Destiny 2’s Crucible even better for all Guardians.”

This is just the beginning for Crucible Labs, and it’s another part of the long process of Bungie rebuilding trust with its playerbase. Fans could be in for a fun summer of new game modes and ideas in the Crucible.
