The Hearthstone Global Games has a pretty unique format.
Unlike a standard four-deck, best-of-five tournament each team has to bring nine decks—one for each class. That means that across the 48 countries, there’s nearly 450 decklists total.

One deck in particular stood out as off-meta in yesterday’s games though. With popular classes like Shaman, Druid, and Warlock often being banned, that left the stage clear for the lesser-played classes like Hunter. While Spell Hunter and even Recruit Hunter have been popular in recent months, it was another Hunter deck that stole the show.
Well over half of the nations involved this week have decided to bring Egg Hunter.
The list above is that of the United States, but most teams adopted a similar build for their submission this week.
The name of the deck comes from the Devilsaur Egg, which combined with cards like Play Dead, Terrorscale Stalker, and Carnivorous Cube can be triggered almost at will. Get a couple of early 5/5s on the board and it can be very hard for your opponent to come back. Defender of Argus is in the deck to help buff the eggs so they can be triggered on their own.
Moving into the mid game, Houndmaster Shaw is key. As the game goes on the Kathrena package with King Krush and Savannah Highmane will help close games out. Deathstalker Rexxar can keep providing Zombeasts to refill the board too.
The deck has some pretty great matchups in the current meta that can come up quite often in competitive play. It’s favored against the popular heavy decks like Shudderwock Shaman, Taunt Druid, Malygos Druid, Big Spell Mage, and Control Warlock. It’s weak to faster decks like Even Shaman, Odd Paladin, and Odd Rogue—and that makes sense given this is a pretty traditional midrange deck.
Expect to see this deck a lot as week one of the Hearthstone Global Games rolls on, and if it does well it might just pop up in your ladder games too.
