Capcom teases new Mega Man X game

This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

We could be seeing new Mega Man X titles in the future, if a message spotted by eagle-eyed fans in the Mega Man X Legacy Collection’s soundtrack booklet is to be believed. In the Japanese version of the game’s soundtrack, liner notes included with the physical version includes a statement that says “The story of X’s fight is not yet over.” It might sound generic, but this has become a pattern on Capcom’s end, teasing a new future installment for the series.

Eurogamer notes that this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a message like this, swiftly followed by a new game announcement after. According to the site, the Mega Man 20th Anniversary book included a statement about the “legend” not yet being complete, and then Mega Man 9 made its debuting not long after.

Capcom hasn’t formally commented on the find just yet, but if it means we might see the return of X in a new game, it would certainly make Mega Man fans’ day. After years of pining and cancelled projects like Mega Man Universe and Mega Man Legends 3, Capcom only recently turned the tap back on. Mega Man 11 comes out on Oct. 2, 2018, the first Mega Man from Capcom in eight years.

Peripheral to that, Mega Man: Fully Charged is a clumsy-looking animated series premiering on Cartoon Network on Aug. 5. Fans got to get a peek at San Diego Comic-Con, though they’d probably prefer more new games than awkward animated tie-ins.

The Mega Man X Legacy Collection comes out on the Nintendo Switch July 24.
