Minecraft gets Buzz Lightyear DLC to celebrate the new movie

To infinity and beyond!

Minecraft is no stranger to crossovers. Minecraft Steve made his way into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a DLC character, and now we have an outsider coming into Minecraft. Everyone’s favorite space ranger has a full adventure available now.

As the announcement on the Minecraft blog explains, this DLC was “inspired by the Disney and Pixar movie.” Lightyear itself is out in theaters the same day as this article. To celebrate the movie, Mojang has created a series of five missions that tell Buzz’s origin story. You’ll journey across “a hostile jungle, a swamp, and a mine, as well as various alien settlements” over the course of the story. Developer Mojang also says you’ll have to fly through space to get to each mission objective, dodging debris along the way. You can get a nice preview of all that with the official trailer below.

You’ll tangle with aliens, robots, and other hazards using some gadgets pulled straight from the movie, and Emperor Zurg is sure to provide a big challenge too. He’s not the only character from the film you’ll see either. Screenshots show Buzz himself, Sox the cat, Mo Morrison, and Izzy and Alisha Hawthorne. In addition to the missions and character cameos, the DLC also includes a Lightyear-themed item for the game’s general character creator.

The Lightyear x Minecraft DLC is available now on the Minecraft Marketplace, where it’ll cost you 1,340 Minecraft Coins. Note that it’s currently not available for the Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft. Mojang says it will be added to that version of the game “soon.”

This is far from the first film that Minecraft has crossed over with. Ice Age DLC is currently available in the game for free, but only until July 31. It includes a new overworld, ancient animals, and skins based on movie characters Manny, Diego, Sid, and Scrat.
