New Tomb Raider game journeys to iOS and Android on Valentine’s Day, pre-registration available now

Just another ordinary day fighting a T-Rex.

Love, bullets, ancient artifacts, and Lara Croft are in the air this Valentine’s Day in Tomb Raider Reloaded. The next Tomb Raider game is changing up the typical format for a new venture. Instead of an action-adventure title like we’ve seen in the past, Reloaded is going roguelike. It’s all the familiarity of Tomb Raider blended with Hades-like elements, including collecting powerups, choosing perks, and finding stat boosters.

Tomb Raider Reloaded sees the eponymous hero take on another quest to find a lost relic. One that we’re sure won’t end in possible suffering and torment for her or impending doom for the world. However, this time around things will look a bit different than in previous games in the series. Graphically, Tomb Raider Reloaded is going for a more cartoonish style and it looks quite good. Everything is colorful and vibrant. A vast difference from the many dark and gloomy missions of past titles.

Yet, not all will be different. You’ll still play tomb raider Lara Croft as she visits many wondrous places including the City of Vilcabamba, the Lost Valley, and St. Francis’ Folly. Plus, you’ll be able to outfit Lara with numerous clothing options such as her infamous bomber jacket. She’ll even be able to use her famous dual pistols. To top it all off, Lara Croft is being voiced by returning voice actress Keeley Hawes.

Fans of Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider will be happy to know that Tomb Raider Reloaded is in good hands as well. The developers are collaborating with Crystal Dynamics, makers of the 2013 Tomb Raider game and its two sequels, to ensure everything is authentic and true to the Tomb Raider franchise.

It may not be what fans are used to when it comes to Tomb Raider, but it all looks rather good. While it could lose that grandiose feeling of exploring a large cavern like the older games, blending Tomb Raider with roguelike elements sounds particularly enticing. Instead of choosing to go it slow and search every area, this time around you can come in guns blazing to mow down countless waves of enemies. In a sense, it’s not that different from certain scenes in Shadow of the Tomb Raider where Lara fights off hordes of enemies.

Tomb Raider Reloaded launches on February 14 for iOS and Android devices. You can pre-register to play the game now.
