The first gameplay trailer for Vampire – The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2 dropped today at E3’s PC Gaming Show. Up to this point, we’ve been given a lot of information about the game’s various vampire clans and some CGI footage, but now we’ve seen at least a hint of how the game will play.

The trailer consisted of pre-alpha footage, so anything about it could change before we actually get our hands on it. What we saw was more than enough to pique our interest, though. Bloodlines 2’s version of Seattle looked great, and the action on display looked fast and fluid. One scene in particular, with the player leaping over a hole that opened up in the floor of a burning beautiful, looked beautiful and thrilling.

Vampire – The Masquerade: Bloodlines 2 will take place in Seattle, and we got a good look at how the city streets will look under cover of darkness. Fortunately, the city looks great by moonlight, because, as a vampire, you’ll only be able to venture out after the sun has already set for the day.

We even got a brief glimpse of some vampiric powers. From what we could tell, we saw a player using some sort of heightened vampiric vision to spy on targets by making their circulatory systems visible through their skin, and lifting an enemy into the air with telekinesis. The trailer also showed a bit of melee combat, including super-powered punches and a vampire’s biggest fear — some rando with a wooden stake.

The character models themselves don’t look like they’re quite as far along as the environment is, but there’s still plenty of time for the developer to polish them, and everything else, up before release.

The presentation also confirmed that Bloodlines 2 is on track for a first quarter 2020 release date on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. That’s actually a little less specific than the March 2020 date currently listed on Steam, but whether that means the date is changing at all is still up in the air. You can pre-order it now on the game’s website.
