Nintendo Maybe Planing To Bring More 3DS Franchises To The Switch

A writer from the Wall Street Journal reports that Nintendo intends to bring more 3DS franchises to the Nintendo Switch.

It appears that Nintendo may possible intend to bring more 3DS franchise to the Nintendo Switch, at least according to one Wall Street Journalist.

Nintendo has shared their quarterly financials for Q2, showing impressive sales for most of their hardware and video games. Many Switch games continue to sell really well, especially Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and the Pokémon games. The Switch Lite also has impressive launch sales, selling around 1.95 million in its first ten days.

What’s interesting about the Lite sales is that the console sold better in the US than in Japan, at least according to Takashi Mochizuki from the Wall Street Journal. Mochizuki reports that the Lite sold 800k in the US, whereas in Japan the handheld only sold 390k. Usually Japan will have stronger sales when it comes to handhelds like the Lite, yet somehow the Lite was able to sell over double the amount in the US compare to Japan.

Mochizuki also reports that Shuntaro Furukawa, the president of Nintendo in Japan, has said that the company is going to bring in more 3DS franchises to the Switch. This is to add more appeal to the Lite, possibly make the Lite more like a handheld console rather than a mobile home console. The strong sales of Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee on the Nintendo Switch may have also contributed to the decision to bring in more 3DS series to the Switch.

It’s unknown if classic 3DS games like Kid Icarus: Uprising will simply be ported over, or if brand new titles from 3DS franchises will be made for the Switch.

The result is encouraging for Pokemon games coming next month. Nintendo chief Furukawa said company would make more 3DS franchises available on Switch to convey appeal of Lite.
