A lot of people are excited about the upcoming installment in the Call of Duty franchise, Black Ops 4—and a good majority of those people are interested in Treyarch and Activision’s first foray into the trendy battle royale mode.
Black Ops 4 is set to feature a battle royale mode called Blackout in place of a traditional, single-player campaign. Although a lot of fans are curious about Call of Duty’s take on battle royale, not a lot of information has ultimately been revealed.

But earlier today a Reddit user made an interesting post with supposed leak information about Blackout.
The first part of the post shouldn’t surprise anyone who’s been following what Treyarch and Activision have said about Blackout so far—the mode is set on the largest map in Call of Duty history, and will feature parts of other fan-favorite maps from previous CoD titles.
This post claims that the Blackout map will have “lots of focus on verticality” and that “Nuketown is located in the middle of the map as an island, surrounded by water, set after the nuke is dropped.” It also says that the developers want at least 50 players in the mode and they’re trying to test 64 players with “plans to increase if possible.”
Call of Duty fans also expect land, air, and sea vehicles in Blackout based on the game mode’s trailer—but the ATV is the “only fully-functioning vehicle in the current build,” according to the Reddit post.
Players will reportedly have 150 health in-game that can be “replenished via scavengable Medical Kits.” Armor will allow players to take an extra shot, while “Armor Piercing Rounds” will make such protection meaningless, according to the post.
Similar to other battle royale games, Blackout will reportedly feature weapon loot with varying rarities—and a gun’s rarity could be a determining factor in which attachments are equipped to the weapon. Inventory slots will likely be limited in-game, with the potential to increase what you can hold through “scavenged Backpacks.”
Other in-game items that were mentioned in the post include consumable abilities like the Specialist abilities, as well as equipment such as the Recon RC, “an RC-XD without explosives,” and “a Monkey Bomb equipment which doesn’t explode.”
The Reddit post also mentions that a “simple visible wall that closes in on the map” could be Blackout’s storm or gas mechanic, while the spawn-in system is reportedly subject to change.
None of the Blackout information in this Reddit post has been confirmed by Activision or Treyarch, however—so Call of Duty fans should tread carefully and wait for any official announcements from the developers of the game mode.
A Blackout private beta is set to become available in September. Black Ops 4 will be released worldwide on Oct. 12.
