An image of Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie has been circulating on the internet, and fans have opinions.
Fans were a skeptic when Paramount Pictures announced they were making a Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Movie adaptations of popular video games have never had the best track record.
With that said, with the positive reception towards Pokémon: Detective Pikachu marketing, maybe Hollywood was finally starting to realize how to sell the idea a video game movie properly.
However, despite how well Detective Pikachu is marketed, the Sonic the Hedgehog has received nothing but bad press. From the oddly shaped Sonic figure on the teaser poster to the leak images of Sonic himself, nothing about the film has made fans any less worry. The opposite may have happened.
While casting Jim Carrey as the main villain may seem like AN odd choice, it isn’t even remotely close to being the worse decision in a series of bad decisions that the film appears to be making. Jim Carrey has always been a popular actor, yet his physique has never matched that of Dr. Robotnik, who is generally portrayed on the heavier side.
On April 29, SEGAbits on Twitter shared an image of Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik. They share a rumor that there will be a trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie coming out tomorrow.

It isn’t known if the image or rumor is legit, but Scott Wampler on Twitter appears to confirm it is real. He claims to have seen two trailers at CinemaCon, one of which focused on Carrey’s role as Robotnik. Scott Wampler is an editor for Birth.Movies.Death, and has the coveted blue check mark next to his name.
Can confirm that’s real. We saw two trailers at CinemaCon, one which was entirely focused on Carrey as Robotnik. He’s playing the character in what I would describe as “late 90’s Jim Carrey mode”. https://t.co/t0HHJzy43s

The image, of course, trended on Twitter, with many fans having mixed opinions on the look. Though compared to the overall negative response towards Sonic’s look, maybe a mix response was probably the best outcome for Carrey’s look as Robotnik, provided if the image is real.
